Spiritual care and guidance
the care of the soul

Throughout the centuries individuals have been called to accompany others seeking the Mystery we name God. In spiritual direction the director helps the person notice and respond to the movement of God in her/his life.

People desire a companion on the spiritual journey for a variety of reasons and needs such as: yearning for a deeper relationship with God, exploring new ways of praying, discerning an important life decision, trying to find meaning during times of sorrow and doubt.

The ministry of spiritual direction is one of reverent and compassionate listening. Our concern is the whole person and the entire experience of God in all of daily life : body, mind and spirit. The charism of Marie Rivier is to make Jesus Christ known and loved : teaching catechism and school to the children, caring for orphans and spiritual accompaniment of the women in her village

Spiritual direction as it is practiced today by the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary is closely related to the manner in which Marie Rivier journeyed with others on the spiritual journey during the troubled times in which they lived.

Legend of the Presentation of Mary

The Feast in the Temple: Mary was 3 years old when her parents Joachim and Anne decided to carry through with a vow they had made to God before the birth of Mary. They led their daughter Mary to the temple to consecrate her to God. It is said Mary climbed the stairs of the temple dancing and with great joy without looking back. This tradition of the Presentation of Mary originates from apocryphal gospel according to James -- writings date from the years 130-140.

And the child was three years old, and Joachim said: Invite the daughters of the Hebrews that are undefiled, and let them take each a lamp, and let them stand with the lamps burning, that the child may not turn back, and her heart be captivated from the temple of the Lord.

And the priest received Mary, and kissed her, and blessed her saying:The Lord has magnified thy name in all generations. In thee, on the last of the days, the Lord will manifest His redemption to the sons of Israel. And he set her down upon the third step of the altar, and the Lord God sent grace upon her; and she danced with her feet, and all the house of Israel loved her.

And her parents went down marvelling and praising the Lord God, because the child had not turned back. And Mary was in the temple of the Lord as if she were a dove that dwelt there, and she received food from the hand of an angel.

This recitation is a legend, but it want so express thge preparation of Mary to become the Mother of God, her total consecration to God, from the first awakening of her freedom.

The Mystery of the Presentation of Mary in the Temple is a mystery of:
-worship and self offering
-the presence of God.

Prayer ministry

The service of adoration and prayer, is priceless.
Our sisters are privileged to fulfill this great dream of our Blessed Foundress Marie Rivier. This includes the self-offering of each one even in her illness & limitations. Additional to Liturgy of the Hours, a common prayer, the Rosary, is prayed daily for the needs of many people throughout the world. Our Sisters are often solicited to bring to the Lord the various intentions of many people. Each one is our Moses with hands and hearts raised to God in constant prayer for the needs of the world, Church & our religious congregation.

Our ministry is also one of hospitality and simplicity as we share our “family spirit” with one another and our many visitors. Only tasks such as driving to appointments, doing laundry and working in the kitchen are for our sisters and our young resident women a full time job accomplished through many hands and a great deal of devotion!

It is our hope to welcome our visitors in this same spirit. We try to minister to others with simplicity and zeal, as our foundress Anne Marie Rivier taught us. All our works are offered to the Lord who takes care of his little ones!

Generous giving

Yes, we do graciously accept donations.

Some are called to give up their lives, some are called to help in other ways. Prayer is of course the most important form of participation in the work of our order. It cannot be denied, however, that those who are successful in this world are called to help the poor financially. This is a form of Christian charity.

There are worthy candidates for this charity all over the world. We welcome your enquiries to help with the costs of our missions and our works. Please contact us for more information.
