History: Sisters of the Presentation congregation

One day my daughters will cross the seas! -Marie Rivier

On November 21, 1796: feast of the Presentation of Mary in the Temple, Marie Rivier and 4 companions had the true audacity to found a religious community in the small village of Thueyts, in the department of Ardeche, France. Together, they consecrated themselves to God and to the education of youth.

Marie Rivier on our history: beginning at a time of persecution, when few dared declare himself Christian. During this upheaval & confusion, a few women came together. These 5 young women are really poor, almost destitute. But nothing can quench the fire which burns within them and wants to spread: making Jesus Christ known and loved becomes their whole life.

What of the future: this very small flame of hope sprung up within the Church of France immersed in the storm of the French Revolution. This adventure towards which the burning wind of the Spirit carries the young foundation is so tremendous! Dozens of small communities light up in the parishes, equaling as many centres of Christian education.

It is upon Mary: that Marie Rivier confers the title of Foundress: Yes, Mary has wanted that this house be totally dedicated to her, that it bear the name of her Presentation; she is Mary, its foundress and inspiration! Read more on the mystery.

History: the Sisters in Prince Albert

In 1903, at the request of Bishop Albert Pascal of Prince Albert, the Sisters of the Presentation opened their first mission in Western Canada in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan. Demand for the sisters’ service soon arose in centers all across Northern and Central Saskatchewan and Manitoba. In time, many young women joined the community and together we have invested our lives to make Jesus Christ known and loved.

Today after 100 years of service in Western Canada the sisters are still actively engaged in service adapted to the spiritual and material needs of the people today.
