We are God’s Children - Now!
"See what love the Father has given us that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are...Beloved, we are God's children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is..." (1 Jn. 3: 1-3)
I don't really know what to write for this blog. I am on my year of renewal, a year of "renewing, returning to my original call, my first love, Jesus Christ." It is a blessed time of retreat, granted so that I continue to deepen my commitment, to prepare for perpetual vows of religious life.
I have always loved the above scripture passage. It speaks to me of the gratuitous love of God the Father for us. Think of it! We are God's children - now! - sisters and brothers of Jesus Christ. What dignity this affords us! And what challenge it places before us!
We have been entrusted with a precious gift: life, as children of God. And as a child of God, I am called to live fully and (w)hol(l)y – in loving relationship with God, myself, and others. God gave me gifts and talents to use to co-create and bring about God's Reign on earth.
So, while I do not know exactly what I will be like in the future, I do have the hope that by God's grace, and continually striving to walk in communion with God, I will be transformed into the likeness of Christ. That is when we will see each other, not as "in a mirror, dimly; but, face to face."
Can you imagine that joy?
